If the medication is going to work at a given dose, effects should be noticeable within 10 to 14 days. Some individuals simply don't respond to treatment at all, and may need to explore other options.

Warnings & Side Effects

Serious side effects are very rare with this medication unless it is used by patients with certain other health conditions:

• Kidney or liver problems
• Severe respiratory or cardiac issues

While Glucophage is often effective on its own, sometimes other diabetes treatments are needed as well. When multiple medications are being taken, side effects may be more likely; a doctor or pharmacist can provide more information according to the particular combination of medications.
